  Rafting Bystraya River

Kamchatka mapWhat a great way to see Kamchatka! Raft the second longest river on the Peninsula - the Bystraya River. Bring your fishing equipment and expect to catch salmon for dinner and wave the bears feasting along the river. Spend your evenings stargazing by the campfire while learning how to cook ukha, the Russian fish soup.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Petropavlovsk city....Drive (~ 2 hours) to the old Cossack village of Milkovo, founded in 1743 by pioneers who traveled two years across Siberia in search of new lands. Lunch. Orientation. Begin rafting - 3 hours. Overnight in tents.

Day 2: In route...breakfast. Continue rafting for about 4 hours until Azhitza junction. Lunch. Continue rafting until Stepanova junction. Dinner. Overnight in tents.

Day 3: In route...breakfast. Continue rafting until Kamyshovaya river junction - 3 hours. Lunch. Continue rafting the section with big rapids (grade III) - 3 hours, 5 rapids total. Dinner. Overnight in tents near the Japanese bridge.

Day 4: In route...breakfast. Continue rafting until the junction with the main road to Petropavlovsk - 7 hours. Drive (~ 4 hours) to Petropavlovsk.

  • River rafting grade II - III.
  • Be prepared to take a "shower" in the river.
  • Cary repellent for mosquitoes at all times.
  • If personal hygiene is an issue-bring your own sleeping bags.
  • Carry toilet paper when in the field.
