Trekking Kamchatka Volcanoes
Great budget trip (if in the group) for those who wish to experience the power and beauty of Kamchatka's volcanoes. Trek its slopes and craters, enjoy breathtaking views and Moon looking rock formations. Walking on the edge of a live crater will bring back childhood memories, when your heart was pounding from a mixture of fear, excitement and the unknown.
Itineary:
Day 1: Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky airport...arrival transfer to accommodations (B&B). Dinner. Overnight at B&B.
Day 2: Petropavlovsk...breakfast. Depart in pax-trucks with group of Europeans/Russians to
village of Kozirevsk, about 9 hours drive to north. Camp along lake. Dinner. Overnight in tents.
Day 3: Camp...breakfast. Drive to Tolbachik Volcano, camp, hike in area. Overnight in tents.
Day 4: Camp...breakfast. Ascent of Plosky Tolbachik Volcano, all day hike, moderate level. Camp. Overnight in tents.
Day 5: Camp...breakfast. Hike through the Dead Forest at the new cone area of
Tolbachik Volcano. Camp. Overnight in tents.
Days 6: Camp...breakfast. Drive to Puschinsky Hot Springs in the Kashkan River valley. Here there are a series of 6 hot springs surrounded by grasses and birch trees, great for bathing and relaxing.
These springs range in temperature from 23 to 42 Celsius.
Camp. Overnight in tents.
Day 7: Camp...breakfast. Relax at Puschinsky Hot Springs. Camp. Overnight in tents.
Day 8: Camp...breakfast. Drive to Mutnovsky Volcano all day drive. Camp. Overnight in tents.
Day 9: Camp...breakfast. Ascent of Mutnovsky Volcano. Full day hike up to the crater (2323 meters). Lengthy hike will be awarded with great sightseeing. Geysers colored by fumaroles and mineralized waters look incredible. Evening (weather permitting i.e. if strong wind/rain wait til next morning). Overnight in tents.
Day 10: Driver to Petropavlovsk. Free time. Overnight in B&B.
Day 11: Departure transfer and escort to airport.

Special tour-related note:
You will need to carry a rucksack of approximately 12-14 kilograms. Porters can be hired to carry packs for extra fee.
Be prepared to take a "shower" in the river or lake.
Cary repellent for mosquitoes at all times.
If personal hygiene is an issue-bring your own sleeping bags.
Carry toilet paper when in the field.
